A Study on the Indices of Life Expectancy by Marital Status

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study is to measure the indices of the life expectancy by marital status. Data used in the life table of the marital status are the ´1995 Population and Housing Census of Republic of Korea´ and the ´Annual Report on the Vital Statistics in 1995´. And the ´1995 National health Survey´ conducted by Korean Institute of Health and Social Affairs is utilized to produce the health life expectancy and the morbidity life expectancy.
The major findings may be summarized as fellows:
1. The findings of the life span by marital status are as fellows:
(1) In case of male, the order of the life spans is 74.84 years for the married, 65.19 years for the single, 64.56 years for the divorced, and 57.95 years for the widowed.
(2) In case of female, the order of the life spans is 78.79 years for the married, 70.97 years for the divorced, 69.32 years for the single, and 54.10 years for the widowed.
2. The findings of the health life expectancy by marital status are as fellows:
(1) In case of male, the order of life expectancy is the married(49.02 years), the single(45.48 years), the divorced(45.67 years), and the widowed(41.79 years).
(2) In case of female, the order of life expectancy is the single(44.94 years), the married(44.30 years), the divorced(39.99 years), and the widowed(37.22 years).
3. The findings of the morbidity life expectancy are as fellows:
(1) In case of the male, the morbidity life expectancies by the marital status are 25.82 years for the married, 19.71 years.
(2) In case of the female, the morbidity life expectancies by the marital status are 34.49 years for the married, 30.98 years for the divorced, 24.38 years for the single, and 16.88 years for the widowed.
